Trail Conditions

In the winter months, Maine Huts & Trails provides a backcountry trail experience for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat-biking. The trails take a break in the spring for mud season, and return in the summer for biking, hiking, trail running and exploring.

UPDATE: In alliance with the Carrabassett Valley Trails Committee, our trails are closed for mud season. We asks folk to stay off the trails to protect them while they dry out. We anticipate trails reopening mid-May. The Narrow Gauge Pathway is a town trail, and that is open for use. For details on all trails in the area, please visit the Carrabassett Valley Trails page.

Flagstaff, Stratton and Poplar Huts are also closed for the spring season.

Trail Closures

The Maine Hut Trail Network is CLOSED for mud season. Please stay off the Maine Hut Trail network during this time to prevent trail damage. We anticipate reopening in May.

Trailhead Closures

Gauge Road Trailhead (beginning of Carriage Road near the Carrabassett Valley Town Office) is closed. The nearest trailhead is the Airport Trailhead; see all available trailheads.
Old Poplar Stream Trailhead - bridge to parking area needs to be rebuilt, in addition to Penobscot Nation land closure.
West Forks/Grand Falls Trailhead
Lower Enchanted Trailhead

Hut Closures

Grand Falls Hut is closed for trail and solar system repairs.
Stratton, Poplar, and Flagstaff Huts are temporarily closed until full hut rentals begin mid-May.
