“ The Poplar Stream Falls trail is perfect for snowshoeing with the whole family. Beautiful scenery with the stream, and of course the falls up at the hut! Then the accommodations at the hut are top notch. Delicious home cooked meals, cozy fireplaces, rooms to play games or quietly read a good book. We will definitely be back this year!!! .”

    About Maine Huts & Trails

Founded in 2001 as Western Mountains Foundation and now doing business as Maine Huts & Trails, we are a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) corporation, organized to build and operate a hut-to-hut trail system in western Maine.

When completed, Maine Huts & Trails will include up to 12 rustic, yet comfortable, backcountry huts and more than 180 miles of non-motorized trails. And while we seek to build an active community of outdoor enthusiasts, we are interested in much more than just having fun on the trails or in the huts. Through our collective efforts, we will protect and provide opportunities for future generations to experience the natural beauty of western Maine. We will introduce the wonders of the outdoors to young people in hopes of creating tomorrow's outdoor stewards. We will encourage healthy lifestyles by creating opportunities for accessible, people-powered outdoor recreation. As an added benefit, Maine Huts & Trails will bring much-needed economic development to western Maine, by drawing a steady stream of outdoor enthusiasts to the region year-round.
