Summer at Maine Huts & Trails is an action packed time of year. Visitors come to the huts to enjoy a wide variety of activities.
Activities range from hut-to-hut hikes to trips that include mountain biking, flatwater canoeing or kayaking, and rafting. Of course, there are also a number of activities to savor at each hut.
During the heat of summer guests enjoy swimming and other water sports at the huts. Visitors to Poplar Stream Hut can cool off or catch native brook trout in nearby Poplar Stream. Flagstaff Lake Hut, named “Best Lakeside Lodging in Maine” in the April 2011 issue of Yankee Magazine, offers waterfront activities on Flagstaff Lake, including canoes and kayaks for members to borrow. Grand Falls Hut’s location on the Dead River provides opportunities to picnic on and swim from beautiful riverside beaches. The quality trout and salmon fishing continues through the summer offering fly fishing enthusiasts quality early morning and evening hatches that bring hungry trout and salmon to the surface.
Flagstaff and Poplar Huts offer day hiking opportunities and can serve as base camps for day hikes in the Bigelow range. If you choose a milder hike, or a hut-to-hut journey, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Bigelows. If you choose to relax at one hut for several days, you’ll relish the beautiful surroundings, warm hospitality, and delicious food. Whatever you choose to do, Maine Huts and Trails is a great summer time destination!
