Flagstaff Hut
Maine Huts & Trails warmly welcomes guests to experience the backcountry of Maine without leaving the comforts of home behind. (750 x 1000)

KINGFIELD, Maine - A Maine Huts & Trails adventure is a one-of-a-kind New England experience and is a great way for people with all ability levels to enjoy the backwoods experience of the western mountains of Maine with confidence. It is the perfect opportunity to experience an authentic backcountry adventure, but also caters to guests with select amenities that make their experience in the woods more comfortable.

The "huts" are beautiful wood-framed, cedar-sided lodges with expansive windows providing views of the surrounding forest. Though all the huts are off-grid and cannot be accessed by car, each offers modern conveniences like hot showers, solar-powered lighting, and heat throughout, including in the bunk rooms. Each hut has a state-of-the-art green energy system that generates and stores its own power.

The main buildings, with vaulted ceilings, open-concept dining rooms and comfortable leather furniture, provide the perfect setting to catch up with friends and family or meet new people with similar interests. Staff-tended woodstoves add extra warmth on chilly days, and a separate sitting area is stocked with books, nature guides and board games. Outside, guests like to settle into the cozy Adirondack chairs located around the fire pit.

Delicious home-cooked meals, served family style, are made with locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible. In the morning, hot coffee is available early and followed by a full gourmet breakfast. After breakfast, guests are able to make and pack a bag lunch to enjoy on the trail.

When it is time to hit the hay, the bunkhouses provide warmth and comfort. Each bunk has a foam mattress and pillow; guests just need to bring along sleeping bags and pillowcases. Bunkhouses are shared and co-ed, but for those who prefer, there are a limited number of private accommodations available at each hut.

Guests are treated to an authentic backcountry experience with the security of knowing that the Maine Huts & Trails trained and knowledgeable staff is there to support them. A majority of the Maine Huts & Trails staff are avid adventurers themselves, and are well-informed about the activities and experiences the huts make possible. Guests can choose to journey from hut to hut, select one hut as a hub for exploring, or come for a day hike.

There is something for everyone, from the hardcore adventurer to those who prefer gentler pursuits. Offering four seasons of fun, the huts are a great place to visit any time of the year. Hiking and mountain biking can be enjoyed from mid-spring to late fall. In the summer, there's swimming, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. The waters surrounding Maine Huts & Trails are also known for excellent salmon and trout fishing in the spring, and in the winter, groomed trails attract cross-country skiers and hikers on snowshoes.

With four huts providing access to more than 80 miles of trails, wildlife, year-round outdoor adventure, and natural treasures like the Bigelow Preserve, Flagstaff Lake and the Appalachian Trail, Maine Huts & Trails is the perfect setting to have an authentic backcountry experience without having to rough it.
