There is no better place to learn how to fly fish than on classic trout and salmon waters such as the Dead River in beautiful western Maine. There are also no better fly fishing instructors than our local registered Maine guides.  Todd Towle, who oversees the school, started Kingfisher River Guides in Kingfield Maine as way to build a life around his passion for fly fishing. His ability to share experiences and skills with clients is attributed to the culmination of over a decade of guiding and numerous trips and seasons throughout northern New England, the American West, and Alaska. Todd will supply all hardware equipment, terminal tackle, waders and boots, everything he or she needs to be on the water. As a student, you will learn the following:

  • Casting basics
  • Equipment  overview
  • Knots
  • Flies and fly selection
  • Entomology
  • Wading safety
  • Ethics and etiquette
  • Proper fish handling
  • Putting it all together
