Maine Huts & Trails Kicks Off Summer with Weekend Trail Day and Pig Roast

KINGFIELD, Maine - Celebrate the start of the summer season with Maine Huts & Trails on July 11 at their Summer Kick-Off Trail Work Day and pig roast. In conjunction with the Carrabassett Region New England Mountain Biking Association (CR NEMBA), Maine Huts & Trails will have a number of hut and trail maintenance projects that they need help with.

Interested volunteers are encouraged to bring their families to help prepare the trails for the summer season and for the Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge happening July 18-19. Work begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Outdoor Center in Carrabassett Valley and will be at multiple locations along the trails. All volunteers are invited to stay overnight at Stratton Brook on Saturday, July 11, for half price (advance reservations are required).

Once the trails are looking fantastic, Maine Huts & Trails will be rewarding all their volunteers with a pig roast. In addition to local pork being smoked on site, there will be homemade macaroni and cheese made with Cabot cheeses, local Marfax baked beans, seasonal vegetable sides, homemade cornbread and keg beer. Members and trail work volunteers eat free, all others are $15 for adults and $7 for youth (17 and under).

As always, Maine Huts & Trails is pleased to offer free overnight lodging for youth age 17 and under on opening weekend. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 207-265-2400.
