Recommended Items:
- Backpack* – Pack should be large enough to comfortably carry the following items.
- Trail Map* – We strongly suggest that ALL trail users carry our current trail map.
- Sleeping Bag (or Linens) and a Pillowcase – A medium-weight fleece blanket and a pillow are provided and bunkrooms are kept heated to 60°F during the cooler months.
- Sleep Sacks, are a great light-weight, warm weather alternative to a sleeping bag. Sacks can also be used as a liner to increase the warmth of your regular sleeping bag.
- Towel– For showering.
- Travel Towels, are designed specifically for travel and trail use because of their light-weight, quick-dry properties.
- Headlamp and/or Flashlight
- Compact Headlamps are the most versatile.
- Slippers* – A pair of light, slip-on shoes are ideal for wearing around the Hut and between the main lodge and bunkrooms. (Flip-flops are good during the summer!)
- First Aid Kit*
- Self-Rescue Kit*
- Whistle
- Multi-purpose knife
- Matches and/or a lighter (waterproof/windproof is preferable)
- Emergency/Foil Blanket
- GPS and/or Compass (practice using it BEFORE you begin your trip—it does you no good if you can’t operate it)
- Extra batteries
- Helpful Hint: Pack these items in a re-sealable waterproof container for quick-easy access. This is also a good idea for your map, ID, camera, car keys and anything else you don’t want to get wet.
- Change of clothes
- Toiletries
- Helpful Hint: If you wear glasses or contacts, bring an inexpensive set as a backup in case you lose or break yours.
- Sunglasses*
- Snacks* – Crunchy granola bars and trail mix do well in any weather, avoid foods that will freeze or spoil.
- Plenty of WATER*– As much as you can comfortably carry. For those going Hut-to-Hut, three quarts per person per day is a good rule of thumb, depending on the weather and your level of fitness. For those hiking only the short distances from a trailhead, 1 to 2 quarts per person should suffice, again, depending on the weather and your level of fitness.
- Drink responsibly; choose reusable BPA-Free Water Bottles.
- Blaze Orange – Hunting Season Only (November)
Optional Items:
- Book/Journal – Each Hut has a selection of reading material and games for all ages if you want to save the extra weight in your pack.
- Camera
