DirectionsTravel Times to Kingfield/Carrabassett Valley area Directions to Kingfield Office: From points south, take I-95 to Augusta, then follow Route 27 North through Farmington. Continue on Rt. 27 to Kingfield. From Bangor, take I-95 south to Route 2 through Skowhegan to Norridgewock, where you take 201A north to North Anson. In North Anson, pick up Rt 16 West to Kingfield. Take Rt 27 north (also Main St.). Our office is located on Main St. in Kingfield, next door to Tranten's Grocery Store and across from The Woodsman Restaurant. Directions to Gauge Rd. Trailhead (access for Poplar Stream Falls Hut): From Rt 27 in Kingfield, travel north approximately 8 miles, turn right (if you are coming north) or left (if you are coming south) onto Carriage Rd. You will see a sign directing you to Trailhead Parking. After crossing the Carrabassett River, take the second right onto Gauge Rd. (you should see another sign). The trailhead is across the bridge and to the left. Directions to Long Falls Dam Rd. Trailhead (Flagstaff Lake Hut access): From points north, take I-95 south to Exit 157 Newport and pickup Route 2 west through Skowhegan to Norridgewock, where you take 201A north to North Anson, pickup Rt. 16 West to North New Portland. In North New Portland where road makes sharp left, continue straight - this road becomes the Long Falls Dam Road and our trailhead is located 22.8 miles from North New Portland. From points south, take I-95 north to Exit 130 Waterville/Route 104 north, then continue straight when this becomes Rt 139 north. In Norridgewock, pickup Rt. 201A north to North Anson. In North Anson pickup Rt. 16 West to North New Portland. In North New Portland where road makes sharp left, continue straight - this road becomes the Long Falls Dam Road and our trailhead is located 22.8 miles from North New Portland. From Kingfield, travel east on Rt 16 to North New Portland. In North New Portland, where Rt 16 takes a sharp right turn, take a left on Long Falls Dam Rd. Travel 22.8 miles north and look for signs directing you to the trailhead, located on the left (west) side of the road. ***Summer/Fall 2009 note: This route is closed for DOT construction project. Instead travel north 8 miles and make right onto Carriage road in Carrabassett Valley and go 5 miles on the dirt road to exit onto East Flagstaff Road, make a right and go 1/4 mile to Long Falls Dam Rd. make a left, and go 4.4 miles to trail head entrance on the left. You'll see the signs directing you into the trailhead. |
