Whether you are looking for a unique Nordic skiing experience, an exciting new mountain biking adventure or a quiet hike or snowshoe getaway, Maine Huts & Trails has you covered. Our multi-use trails offer lots of possibilities for guests of all ages and abilities. Below we have some tried-and-true itinerary suggestions that we are sure you will enjoy regardless of the season!

Decide on when you will be coming, the activity (or activities) you plan to do when at Maine Huts & Trails and the kind of trip you will be taking.

Season
Summer/Fall Winter
  • Summer at Maine Huts & Trails is an action-packed time of year. Visitors come to the huts to enjoy a wide variety of activities ranging from hiking, mountain biking, paddling, swimming, fishing and rafting.
  • Fall is very conducive to all of the same activities and the crisp air and colorful foliage only add to the experience!
  • During the winter, Maine Huts & Trails visitors enjoy over 45 miles of trail groomed for Nordic skiing and many additional trails that can be explored by snowshoe. Snowshoers are welcome on the groomed trails as are snow/fat bikers.

One hut serves as activity base. These are ideal for beginners, families and 1-night trips. Self-Guided Hut-to-Hut: Primary activity is travelling hut-to-hut. We provide route guidance and information for you to book rentals, shuttles, etc. Great for intermediate levels and visits including multiple nights and/or activities. Maine Huts & Trails uses several third party-guides take you and/or groups on a variety of adventures.

Backcountry Beginner

Self-Guided, 3-Day/2-night, 1 hut (Summer or Winter)

Description

Stay at one hut for two nights and explore the trails in the vicinity of the hut or get out and back any distance. This is an excellent itinerary for beginners who are uncertain of their distance capabilities.

  • 2 nights’ accommodations at either Poplar Hut or Flagstaff Hut
  • 2 home-cooked dinners
  • 2 lunches
  • 2 full breakfasts

Intermediate Adventure

Self-Guided, 3-day/2-night, 2 huts (Summer or Winter)

Description

Enjoy this 3 day & 2 night hut-to-hut adventure. Choose to go from Stratton Brook to Poplar (or vice versa) or from Poplar to Flagstaff (or vice versa). This trip is a great choice for those who want a hut-to-hut adventure but have limited time. For summertime adventurers this trip can be tailored to combine multiple activities; hike & bike, hike & paddle or bike & paddle.

Ultimate Hut-to-Hut

Self-Guided, 4-day/3-night, 3 huts (Summer or Winter)

Description

Experience 3 MH&T huts & 4 days of adventure on the Maine Hut Trail. Choose to go from Stratton Brook to Poplar to Flagstaff (or vice versa) or from Poplar to Flagstaff to Grand Falls (or vice versa).

Expert Expedition

Self-Guided, 5-day/4-night, 4 huts (Summer or Winter)

Description

This 4-night, 5-day itinerary includes all 4 of our current huts and 50 miles of skiing. Go from Stratton Brook to Poplar to Flagstaff to Grand Falls and the 14.5 miles out to the West Forks Trailhead or do the trip in reverse and end at the new trailhead near Stratton Brook.
