Hut Staff: Now hiring for summer 2016!
The 2016 summer season runs from July 1st to October 26th at Flagstaff Hut, Stratton Brook Hut, and Poplar Hut, and July 1st to October 12th at Grand Falls Hut.
Priority will be given to qualified candidates able to work the full season. On-site accommodation and food are provided for all positions. The standard schedule is 10 days on, 4 days off. The day to-day work schedule is determined by Hut Masters, with a variety of morning, mid-day, and evening shifts.
The Hut Master oversees daily operations at the hut and ensures high standards of customer service. In addition to performing all aspects of the hut crew position, the hut master is responsible for leading and motivating staff and volunteers, creating and implementing daily schedules, performing daily facilities inspections, managing inventories of supplies and merchandise, and overseeing routine maintenance of the hut. Applicants should be personable, effective problem-solvers capable of maintaining high standards in an isolated environment. This position requires strong leadership skills and supervisory experience in the food service or hospitality industry.
Hut crew are responsible for providing a welcoming, friendly, and clean environment for overnight guests and day visitors at Maine Huts & Trails’ backcountry huts. Hut crew undertake a variety of responsibilities on a rotational basis, including front desk management, food preparation, housekeeping and custodial duties, and assisting with operation and periodic maintenance of green energy systems.
The right person for this position will have a proven commitment to customer service, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to maintain high standards in an isolated setting. Food service, hospitality, or related experience is preferred. This position is a unique opportunity for someone interested in recreational or outdoor hospitality, green building design and operation, conservation education, or similar fields.
Guest Services Representative
The Guest Services Representative (GSR) will join the Maine Huts & Trails team with primary responsibility to assist with the guest inquiry, trip planning and hut reservations process in an effort to set the stage for a high-quality guest service experience and help establish Maine Huts & Trails as a world-class tourism destination. Suitable candidates will have an outgoing personality and the ability to communicate effectively via phone, email and in-person. Candidates must also possess excellent organizational and problem solving skills. This position requires exceptional computer skills and the ability to effectively multi-task in a dynamic office environment. Experience in Customer Service and/or Reservations required. Experience in hospitality services is desirable. We are looking for a team player who is self-motivated, results-oriented and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that Maine Huts & Trails guests have the information they need to have a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), seasonal position that may occasionally include weekends. This position is based out of the Kingfield office and will involve occasional travel into the huts.
Maine Huts & Trails is seeking volunteer hut caretakers during self-service season. Caretakers live at the huts for a period of two to twelve weeks, with room and board provided. This is a unique opportunity to live rent-free and off-the-grid, with a recreational playground at your fingertips! Kayaking, canoeing, biking, hiking, and camping are right out your door. Caretakers welcome visitors, and must be attentive to the cleanliness and maintenance of the hut. The caretaker will ideally be an outgoing person who enjoys sustainable living and outdoor recreation and appreciates the Maine outdoors.
Maine Huts & Trails is currently searching for an Executive Director to lead our growing organization. The Executive Director serves as the CEO of Maine Huts & Trails and will work to enhance the organization’s reputation for offering world-class outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism experiences. The new ED will be poised to take MH&T’s mission fulfillment and sustainability to the next level through transformative growth both within the current footprint and through additional huts and trails that will add scale. Growth will require building productive relationships with landowners, communities, donors, and government officials to create a shared vision for an environmentally sensitive nature based tourism economy in western Maine. The new ED will be responsible for leading MH&T out of its start-up phase by implementing/developing increasingly effective systems and processes to support growth.
