Winter Hut Caretaker Training

What is winter caretaking?

Our volunteers stay at the huts on self-service days and help fuel our wood-fired heating system, clean common areas, answer self-service guest questions, and support our hut staff on their days off. At least one hut staff will always be present for support. Enjoy a cozy stay in the snowy backcountry, and support our organization at the same time!

Friday, December 15th
Optional volunteer overnight at Flagstaff Lake Hut. Park at Long Falls Dam/Flagstaff Trailhead and ski/snowshoe/fat bike/hike along the Maine Hut Trail to Flagstaff Lake Hut. Explore the hut, and enjoy a pasta dinner, and stay overnight in our bunkrooms. Breakfast is included the next morning, and training starts at noon.

Saturday, December 16th
12-4PM winter caretaker training/refresher course at Flagstaff Hut. Join us to go over our Tarm wood-fired heating system, compostable toilet system, self-service kitchen rules, basic hut maintenance and more. Learn all about the workings of the huts to prepare for the self-service volunteer season.
